The February meeting of the Merry Makers FCE Club was held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Erline’s home in Newtonia.
Our original plans had to be changed due to the Granby House being under quarantine. We had planned a Valentine party there. Valentines had been made and cupcakes and candy for each one. Sharon Thomas took them to Granby House so they could distribute them.
There were 15 members present and one visitor, Betty Himmerich. The members present were: Van Stufflebeam, Ruth Hunke, Nola McMillen, Lee House, Doris Everett, Carol Renner, Sharon Thomas, Nancy Stipp, Tina Walden, Leanor Landreth, Bev Caywood, Eloise Kitchen, Sharon Breedlove, Jo McLemore and Erline Hoeppner.
In old business, we discussed our new project for this year which is the veteran’s home gift shop for the holidays. We will work on some items for it at our workday, which will be March 28 at Ruth’s house at 10 a.m. We will have a potluck lunch that day.
We discussed our cookbook sales. They have been selling well. There still are a few more to sell. We are collecting coats, hats, scarves and mittens for the Methodist Church in Granby. If you have any, bring to the March meeting. We will take them to the church.
A reminder was given to keep on recycling. Recycling will be one of our top projects this year. Things that can be recycled are printing cartridges, clothing, newspaper, cans and cell phones.
Our volunteer hours for last year were to be turned in and must be sent to the state president by March 15th. Ruth and Erline reported on the Southwest District Advisory meeting that they had attended on Feb. 13.
Under new business: The Spring District meeting will be held April 24 at Webster County Extension at Marshfield. Our club is in charge of the silent auction. Each county is asked to bring cookies.
The S.W. District Advisory meeting will be held at the Angus Steakhouse in Monett on Monday, April 10. Our club will hold our monthly meeting in the afternoon after lunch.
Carol Renner has set up our tour to the Botanical Gardens in Springfield for June 13. We will take the tram tour of the garden. Plans are to find a restaurant for lunch before going to the garden at 1 p.m.
We are to start thinking about items we would like to enter for the Newton County Fair.
After our meeting, we played a couple games and then refreshments were served by our hostess, Erline. Tina also brought some extra cupcakes that she had made for Granby House. A fun time was had by all.
Our next meeting is March 14 at the Newtonia Community Building. Hope to see everyone there. If interested, call Sharon (417) 592-4845.
